October Gaming Backlog Update

Warning: potentially scary imagery follows.

Last month, I set a really aggressive goal: to beat enough games in October to cover not only ten for the month, but also the eight of my goal of ten I failed to beat in August.

I managed to beat way more than ten games in October. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite get to the 18 I had planned.

In keeping with the spirit of the Halloween season, my gaming this month included a lot of dealing with death. I finally got around to The Walking Dead, Second Season – which took me through more ups and downs than I remember from the first season, but still seems like the choices I make matter very little in the end.

I also played through Corpse Party and Corpse Party: Book of Shadows – but didn’t make it through the newest, Corpse Party: Blood Drive. (That will have to wait for another day.) Man, were these games unsettling. Playing through the first game, I was shocked just how scared I got from its relatively old-school graphics. I remember literally feeling chills running from that one little kid in the first or second chapter (but he was easily outwitted). A few things in Book of Shadows got under my skin… I’m more excited to play through Blood Drive now. Although WHAT was that Book of Shadows ending?! Crazy.

Goodness gracious, these games.

The other set of games I played were the three games following the Investigation Team after the events of Persona 4 Golden: Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4 Dancing All Night. These were enjoyable, if most of the story was fanservice. Arena and Ultimax were neat fighting games that I got relatively good at eventually. I wanted to try my hand at online competition, but wasn’t able to ever find an active online match. And Persona 4 Dancing All Night was a neat rhythm game. I’ve already discussed my favorite tracks and a few things I like about the game on the blog, so I won’t repeat that here – but it was a ton of fun!

Rise - Let's Dance with Persona 4

During the month, I beat 14 games and completed 6. I also managed to win Tier 1 on an event in Love Live: School Idol Festival for the first time, with a final rank of 618. That kept me pretty busy this month.

Totally worth it:

Persona 4 Arena (PS3) October 31 Beat with multiple characters
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3) October 31 Cleared P4 story!
Persona 4 Dancing All Night (PS Vita) October 31 Beat and earned Platinum trophy.
Corpse Party (PSP) October 31 Cleared the true ending and a selection of bad endings.
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (PSP) October 31 Cleared the true ending and the extra chapter. Have not collected all bad ends.

Goals for November

For November, let’s be thankful for what I have and try to beat some games that I’ve played and set aside. I have a long list of games that I have started which are still unfinished. I would also like to try to avoid buying as many games as I often do – for instance, in October, I bought or otherwise acquired (birthday gifts, PS+, Humble Bundle) 19 games – and that’s not too unusual. (In fact, some months I’ve bought way more…) I’ll try to cut that in half.

Goal Deadline
Beat ten games, including at least five games that I have started and not yet finished.
(several below meet this criteria)
November 30
Pay for no more than 10 games this month. November 30
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds November 30
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 November 30
Mario Kart DS November 30
Bravely Default November 30
Sound Shapes (PS Vita) November 30
Yokai Watch (3DS) November 30

Until Next Time!

Hopefully I can avoid spending lots more money on games, and play through some games that I started and never finished.
